About the workshop

This workshop features works by Tallis and Parry, composed for the monarchs of their day. Works to be sung include Tallis’ Sancte Deus, If Ye Love Me, and Gaude Gloriosa, and Parry’s Sorrow and Pain, and excerpts from Songs of Farewell. If you are an experienced singer with good sight-reading skills, we’d love you to join us!

Our facilitator for the day, Dr Ralph Allwood, was Director of Music at Eton College for 26 years and is now a freelance choral director. He is Choral Advisor to Novello and to Trinity College, Oxford, and teaches at Trinity Laban Conservatoire.

In 2012 he was made an MBE and was appointed Director of Music at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich the same year. In 2017 he was awarded the Thomas Cranmer Award for Music and Worship, and became Vice-President of the Herbert Howells Society.

Cost: singers £20 per person, under 25 £10, including music hire, coffee on arrival and afternoon tea. Cost for observers is £5, for patrons attending as observers admission is free. Lunch is not provided, so please bring your own or try the local pubs.

There is plenty of nearby parking, the venue is fully accessible and has toilet facilities.
